Amazon & Nvidia Team Up: New AI Chips, Servers, and the Future of Cloud Computing (2025)

The AI hardware arms race just reached a new level—and Amazon is making bold moves to claim its place at the front. The tech giant’s cloud division, Amazon Web Services (AWS), has announced that it will incorporate Nvidia’s advanced NVLink Fusion technology into its next generation of AI processors. At AWS’s massive annual cloud computing conference in Las Vegas this week—an event that brought together roughly 60,000 attendees—Amazon revealed that its forthcoming chip, called Trainium4, will feature Nvidia’s NVLink Fusion. This technology, widely considered one of Nvidia’s most valuable innovations, enables incredibly fast data exchange between different types of processing chips. The result? AI servers that “think” together more efficiently, dramatically speeding up the training of large-scale machine learning models.

Nvidia has long tried to convince other major chipmakers to adopt its NVLink tech—Intel and Qualcomm have already signed on, and now Amazon joins the list. This growing ecosystem signals a future where AI systems can scale with fewer bottlenecks and greater collaboration between cloud and chip vendors. On top of that, Amazon rolled out new servers powered by its existing chip, Trainium3. Each unit packs 144 chips and delivers over four times the computing power of the previous generation while consuming 40% less energy. Dave Brown, AWS’s vice president for compute and machine learning, noted that this efficiency leap positions AWS as a cost-effective competitor even against Nvidia’s own hardware. “We have to show our customers that our chips give them the performance they need at the right price,” he said.
