Apple's Sainte-Catherine store in Montreal is back, and the grand reopening was a sight to behold! After a relocation that took longer than expected, the doors of the historic storefront swung open on January 16th, drawing eager crowds and marking a significant moment for Apple and the Montreal community.
The move, initially announced in April 2024, finally came to fruition, even if it was a bit behind the originally planned February 2025 completion date. But the wait seems to have been worth it!
Apple celebrated the reopening by sharing stunning photographs, showcasing the excitement and energy of the grand opening. Deirdre O'Brien, Apple's Senior Vice President of Retail and People, was also present, adding to the celebratory atmosphere.
"For nearly 20 years, we've been proud to be part of the downtown Montreal community, whose spirit of creativity and innovation continues to inspire us," said O'Brien. "We're incredibly excited to build on this long-standing relationship and create a destination where our customers can experience the very best of Apple, from our innovative products to the expert care and support of our amazing team."
The new Apple Sainte-Catherine has found a home in a historic building at the corner of Sainte-Catherine Street West and Rue de la Montagne. The new location is an expansion, now double the size of the previous store.
The photographs reveal a spacious store with a striking design, including square columns and a facade crafted from local granite. Local copper artisans meticulously restored the building's cornice, adding a touch of historical elegance.
Inside, the store features Apple's signature wooden tables at various heights, catering to accessibility needs. Thoughtful access routes have been designed to ensure wheelchair users can easily navigate the space. The store also includes an Apple Pickup area and the Genius Bar. Impressively, the store employs nearly 200 specialists, proficient in numerous languages.
To mark the grand opening, Montreal-based illustrator and designer Catherine Potvin is leading live iPad art demonstrations, continuing into Saturday. She's also created unique illustrations for Apple retail bags, a special touch for opening day customers. Potvin's artistic contributions extend to the Apple logo, store wallpaper, and other launch graphics.
But here's where it gets interesting... Apple currently operates 28 retail stores across Canada, with five located in Quebec, including the newly reopened Sainte-Catherine store.
And this is the part most people miss... It's worth noting that another Apple store shares the Sainte-Catherine name, located in Bordeaux, France.
