Poet Kwazi Nsele Cancels 'Eduze Kwakho' Series After Traumatic Hijacking | Shot in Mouth (2025)

A Poet's Tale: Overcoming Trauma and Prioritizing Recovery

A Creative's Nightmare

Imagine the horror of having your creative outlet, your very means of expression, threatened by a traumatic event. This is the reality Kwazi Nsele, a renowned poet and actor, faced when he survived a car hijacking attempt. The incident left him with a bullet wound near his mouth, impacting his jaw and teeth, and ultimately forcing him to make a difficult decision.

The End of a Unique Series

Nsele, a multi-award-winning artist, had embarked on a special project in February 2024. His unique poetic love series, titled "Eduze Kwakho" (Next to You), offered a romantic visual experience of his poetry, with Nsele himself in the lead role on YouTube. However, the attempted hijacking, where he nearly lost his new Range Rover, left him with a heavy toll on his mouth - an essential tool for his poetic craft.

Despite his efforts to continue the series, Nsele and his team had to face the reality that they couldn't find a quick solution to overcome the challenges posed by his current condition. Thus, they made the tough call to cancel the series, with the final episode airing on November 12, 2024.

A Focus on Healing

Nsele, who has won multiple awards including two Samas, acknowledged the difficulty of his decision. With a large and engaged audience on YouTube, canceling the series was not taken lightly. However, he prioritized his well-being, stating, "The situation is beyond my control, and I decided to cancel the poetic series to take care of my life and focus on my recovery."

The attempted hijack left Nsele traumatized, and he understands the road to recovery will be a long one. "It's a process to heal both the mind and the body simultaneously," he shared. "But I'm determined to recover and move forward."

A Message to Supporters

Nsele expressed his gratitude to his viewers and supporters, acknowledging the impact their love and engagement had on his journey. "Your continuous support made this experience meaningful and unforgettable."

And This Is Where It Gets Controversial...

Some may argue that Nsele's decision to prioritize his recovery over his creative work is a bold move. It raises questions about the balance between personal well-being and professional commitments. Should artists put their health first, even if it means sacrificing their art? Or is there a way to find a middle ground where both can coexist?
