RuPaul's Drag Race Season 18 Episode 15 Review: Is the LalapaRuza Rigged? (2026)

As we approach the climax of RuPaul's Drag Race Season 18, the tension is palpable, and so is the critique. The 'Lip Sync LalapaRuza' episode, a twist on the traditional reunion, has left many viewers, including me, with a bitter taste.

The concept of pitting eliminated queens against each other for a chance at redemption is intriguing, but the execution feels like a cheap ploy. With an abundance of lip sync assassins this season, the producers' attempt at creating a balanced competition falls flat. It's as if they deliberately stacked the odds, creating an uneven playing field.

One thing that immediately stands out is the lack of fairness. Why group the mid-level queens together, only to have them battle it out with the seasoned assassins? It's a setup that favors certain queens, and the results speak for themselves.

The call for #JusticeForMandyMango continues to echo through the drag race community. Mandy, a fan favorite, was robbed yet again, and the frustration is palpable. The demand for split-screen during lip syncs is a valid one; it's a simple fix that would enhance the viewing experience and ensure we, the audience, aren't manipulated.

The semi-final round felt like a letdown. The showdown between Kenya and Mia to the tune of 'Peanut Butter' was entertaining, but it lacked the surprise factor. It felt like a perfect storm, but one that we've seen before.

The ultimate winner, Juicy Love Dion, leaves a sour taste. While Juicy is undoubtedly talented, her victory feels like a foregone conclusion. The 'final boss' twist doesn't make it any fairer. It's a critique that extends beyond Juicy; it's a critique of the franchise itself.

What many people don't realize is that this season, with its over-produced nature, reflects a larger issue. The drag art form, once vibrant and organic, now feels like a shell of itself. The queens, especially the winners, seem like drag robots, their performances and fashion too perfect and polished. It's a far cry from the raw, authentic drag we've come to love.

In my opinion, the producers' focus on creating a polished, marketable product has led to a loss of soul. The drag race, once a celebration of individuality and creativity, now feels like a well-oiled machine, churning out predictable results.

As we bid farewell to Season 18, I can't help but feel a sense of disappointment. While I'm eager to see who takes the crown, I hope the next season brings back the magic and authenticity that made RuPaul's Drag Race a cultural phenomenon.
