Speed Limit Changes Proposed After Tragic Motorcycle Accident in Llandudno (2026)

North Wales Council to Reduce Speed Limit at Hazardous Intersection Following Tragic Accident

The Conwy County Borough Council has proposed a Traffic Regulation Order to reduce the speed limit to 40 mph on a 4-kilometer stretch of road that includes a dangerous junction. This proposal comes in response to the tragic death of David Paul Langford, a Llandudno resident, who lost his life in a crash on the A548 between Llanfair Talhaiarn and Llangernyw on May 11, 2024. The coroner's report identified the Waterloo Hill junction as an exceptionally hazardous location, citing poor visibility and excessive shrubbery and foliage around a turning mirror.

The inquest revealed witness testimony describing the junction as 'exceptionally dangerous' due to these factors. Concerns were also raised about the national speed limit of 60 mph on the stretch, which the report deemed too high for the dangerous junction. The council's proposed speed limit reduction aims to enhance safety and prevent future fatalities.

Mr. Langford's family and friends paid tribute to him, describing him as a 'great guy' and a devoted father. His passing has sparked a call to action from the council, which is now consulting on the proposed speed limit change. The public is invited to participate in this consultation, ensuring that the decision reflects the community's needs and priorities.
