West Midlands Power Outage: Storm Goretti's Impact Persists
By Andy Giddings
The West Midlands continues to grapple with the aftermath of Storm Goretti, which brought heavy snowfall and left hundreds of homes without power. The situation has improved significantly since Friday, when thousands were affected, but the National Grid (NG) is still working tirelessly to restore power.
The NG has brought in additional engineers from other regions and urges customers to report any power cuts. As of Saturday morning, over 700 power cuts were reported in Staffordshire, with a similar number in the Birmingham area. Shropshire saw almost 800 homes without power, a stark contrast to the 10,000 homes affected just the day before.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice across the region, with temperatures lingering around freezing. This has led to continued disruption in transportation, with West Midlands Trains and Transport for Wales warning passengers of ongoing service interruptions.
The NG's efforts are crucial in restoring power to these communities, and the public is encouraged to report any power outages to aid the recovery process.
