Visa's recent data reveals a fascinating insight into the spending habits of affluent cardholders post-F1 race. But here's where it gets controversial... While many travelers might assume that the excitement of the race itself is the main draw, the numbers tell a different story. And this is the part most people miss...
According to Visa, affluent cardholders led the way in spending and travel activity after the 2025 Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix. So, what does this mean for the average traveler?
The data shows that affluent card users had 65% more shopping spend, and 35% of travelers visited other places post-race weekend. Interestingly, travelers spent an average of 3.5 more days traveling after the race, with 20% making post-race plans. But who are these affluent travelers, and where do they go?
Post-race travel was particularly popular for long-haul travelers from outside of Asia. 35% of them visited at least one other country after the race week, which is higher than the average. Their preferred destinations were neighboring countries near Singapore, such as Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand, while Australia and Japan were also popular. So, what does this tell us about the preferences of affluent travelers?
Moreover, affluent travelers spent about 20% more per person than other travelers on their post-race journeys, driving a surge in travel spending. Compared to other travelers, they spent about 65% more in department stores and around 50% more on apparel and on their post-race itineraries. Does this mean that affluent travelers are more likely to splurge on luxury items?
About 25% of affluent cardholders made further travel plans after the 2025 Singapore Formula 1 weekend, with their preferred post-race destinations being Europe and North America. So, what does this tell us about the travel preferences of the affluent?
This data raises some interesting questions. Are affluent travelers more likely to splurge on luxury items and travel to more exotic destinations? Or are they simply taking advantage of the extended weekend to explore more of the region? What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
